In-place repair
A daemon supervises OpenClaw and restarts it the moment it dies, before anyone notices.
Compare·Runloop alternative
Runloop gives coding agents fast devboxes, benchmarks and evals. Molted gives autonomous agents a home that stays up.
Runloop is infrastructure for building, testing and deploying AI coding agents. Its devboxes are micro-VM sandboxes with SSH, file I/O, tunnels, snapshots and Docker-in-Docker, on ARM64 or x86, where 10GB images start in under 2 seconds. Blueprints make environments reusable, Repo Connect sets one up from a GitHub repository and benchmarks (SWE-Bench, R2E-Gym, SWE-Smith or your own) measure how well an agent performs. A credential gateway keeps secrets out of the agent's reach and Runloop is SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR ready, with VPC deployment on AWS, GCP or Azure. Compute is billed per second at $0.108 per CPU-hour and $0.0252 per GB-hour of memory, on a free Basic plan, a $250/mo Pro plan or Enterprise.Molted is a managed operating environment for autonomous agents (OpenClaw today, Hermes and other runtimes on request). The agent lives in its own instance around the clock and the runtime, its recovery, versioned state, integrations and identity are operated for you.If you are building and evaluating a coding agent, Runloop is made for that work. If you need an agent that stays up and acts on its own, that is what Molted runs.
01Side by side
02The part nobody else builds
A single OpenClaw in production already fails in quiet ways: it crashes and stays down, a config corrupts and bricks the instance, memory spikes and the whole box goes with it. Run thousands of them and doing this by hand is not hard, it is impossible. You need watchers and recovery running every second. Runloop does not ship any of this. Like every general cloud, machine or agent framework, it hands you infrastructure, not a system that watches your agents and brings them back. Molted is that system.
01
A daemon supervises OpenClaw and restarts it the moment it dies, before anyone notices.
02
If the instance itself fails, it is recreated automatically, with its state intact.
03
openclaw doctor repairs corrupted configs and the versioned filesystem restores a last known-good state.
04
If automated recovery cannot fix it, a critical alert fires with a full post-mortem of the failure.
On top of the four tiers, per-agent resource limits keep one busy agent from taking the others down. Crashes are caught in under 60 seconds and back online in under 90, with a post-mortem on every failure.
03Why Molted
Runloop is built for teams whose product is a coding agent. Devboxes start fast and run on micro-VM isolation, blueprints make environments reproducible and Repo Connect detects how to build a repository on its own. The benchmark layer is the rare part: you can score an agent on SWE-Bench, R2E-Gym or SWE-Smith, or turn your production data into a custom benchmark, then use the results for reinforcement fine-tuning.
The enterprise story is solid too: SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and GDPR, a credential gateway that injects tokens the agent never sees, per-devbox egress policies and VPC deployment on the three big clouds.
Runloop's own docs describe devboxes as ephemeral by definition. A devbox lives for one hour by default, suspend keeps the disk without the memory and daemons running at suspend time have to be restarted by hand after resume. Keeping one running all month costs about $233 of compute for a 2 CPU, 4 GB devbox at list rates and suspend and resume need the $250 Pro plan.
An autonomous agent needs a process that stays alive, a supervisor that restarts it, schedules that fire on time, memory and files that survive upgrades, logged-in tools and an identity. Molted ships that layer as a product: 4-tier self-healing with a post-mortem on every failure, config auto-repair, a versioned filesystem with point-in-time restore, 1,500+ managed integrations, managed browser automation and a mailbox and phone number per agent.
Use Runloop when you are building the agent: run it in thousands of parallel devboxes, benchmark it, fine-tune it, ship it. Use Molted when the agent has a job to do every day: answering channels, watching systems and acting on its own, for you or for your clients, with EU, US, on-premise or Swiss deployment.
The two are complementary. A Molted agent can hand coding work to a Runloop devbox and keep going when the devbox shuts down.
The verdict
Runloop is a serious platform for building coding agents: micro-VM devboxes, reusable blueprints, public and custom benchmarks, a credential gateway and enterprise compliance. Molted is the operating layer for agents that stay up: always-on instances with 4-tier self-healing, versioned state, 1,500+ integrations, browser automation, per-agent identity and on-premise options. Pick Runloop to build and test a coding agent; pick Molted for agents that run themselves.
04FAQ
For bursty coding jobs it can be: Runloop bills per second at $0.108 per CPU-hour and $0.0252 per GB-hour and suspended devboxes stop compute billing, per its October 2026 pricing. Kept running all month, a 2 CPU, 4 GB devbox comes to about $233 in compute, plus $250/mo if you need Pro features. Molted prices per agent instance per day and includes the operating layer: recovery, versioned state, integrations, browser automation and identity.
You can install them in a devbox. Raise the 1-hour default lifetime first, remember that suspend keeps the disk but not running processes and plan your own supervision, recovery, state versioning and integrations. On Molted those are the product.
A devbox is Runloop's sandbox: an isolated micro-VM with SSH, file access, tunnels, snapshots and Docker-in-Docker, created from a blueprint and billed per second while it runs. Runloop's docs describe devboxes as ephemeral environments and recommend snapshotting to keep disk state.
When you are building, benchmarking or fine-tuning a coding agent and need many fast, isolated devboxes with enterprise compliance. Pick Molted when you need autonomous agents running in production around the clock without building and staffing the operating layer.
