CompareMolted vs GMI Cloud

GMI Cloud alternative for always-on AI agents

GMI Cloud is an AI cloud built around GPUs and inference, with agents as containers on top. Molted is built around the agent itself.

GMI Cloud is an AI-native GPU and inference cloud. It rents dedicated NVIDIA GPUs (H100 from $2.60 per GPU-hour, H200 from $3.20, B200 from $5.00, GB200 from $8.00, per its October 2026 pricing page), serves 200+ models through serverless, OpenAI-compatible inference, and counts teams like Higgsfield among its customers. On top of that sits Agentbox: a marketplace where you package an agent as a Docker image, run it on GMI infrastructure billed per second, and optionally list it for other GMI users.Molted starts from the other end. It is a managed operating environment for autonomous agents (OpenClaw today, Hermes and other runtimes on request) where the agent's uptime, recovery, state, integrations and identity are the product, and the model provider is your choice. If your bottleneck is GPUs or inference, GMI is built for it. If your bottleneck is keeping agents alive and useful, that is Molted's job.

GMI CloudTeams that need GPUs, fast inference or a marketplace to distribute an agent product.
MoltedTeams that need autonomous agents running around the clock for themselves or their clients.

02The part nobody else builds

One OpenClaw is hard to keep alive. Thousands is impossible without recovery.

A single OpenClaw in production already fails in quiet ways: it crashes and stays down, a config corrupts and bricks the instance, memory spikes and the whole box goes with it. Run thousands of them and doing this by hand is not hard, it is impossible. You need watchers and recovery running every second. GMI Cloud does not ship any of this. Like every general cloud, machine or agent framework, it hands you infrastructure, not a system that watches your agents and brings them back. Molted is that system.

01

In-pod restart

A daemon supervises OpenClaw and restarts it the moment it dies, before anyone notices.

02

Pod recreation

If the pod itself fails, it is recreated automatically, with the instance state intact.

03

Known-good restore

openclaw doctor repairs corrupted configs and the versioned filesystem restores a last known-good state.

04

Critical alert

If automated recovery cannot fix it, a critical alert fires with a full post-mortem of the failure.

On top of the four tiers, a RAM semaphore throttles startups and kills by priority before a shared node runs out of memory, so high density never becomes a crash. Crashes are caught in under 60 seconds and back online in under 90, with a post-mortem on every failure.

03Why Molted

The detail behind the table.

What GMI Cloud is genuinely great at

GMI Cloud is serious AI infrastructure. Dedicated NVIDIA GPUs from H100 to GB200 with transparent hourly pricing, RDMA-ready clusters for training, and inference that runs serverless by default with batching, latency-aware scheduling and scale-to-zero cover the expensive half of building AI products. Customers such as Higgsfield run real-time generative video on it.

Agentbox is a smart addition: package an agent once and either run it privately or list it so other GMI users can deploy it and pay for their own usage. If you train or serve models, or want a marketplace for an agent product, GMI deserves a close look.

Compute for agents is not an operated agent

On Agentbox an agent is a container that answers HTTP requests. It stops when nobody is using it, long tasks need an async job pattern to survive the gateway timeout, and what happens inside, crashes, corrupted configs, a bad change to roll back, a site that blocks the browser, a 2FA code by SMS, is the agent author's problem.

Molted is built for agents that act on their own rather than answer requests: OpenClaw runs as an always-on heartbeat, a supervising daemon and 4-tier self-healing keep it alive with a post-mortem on every failure, configs are repaired automatically, the versioned filesystem restores any point in time, and 1,500+ integrations, managed browser automation and a mailbox and phone number per agent give it real reach.

Often complementary

The two fit together well. Molted is model-agnostic, and GMI documents how to use its models inside OpenClaw and Hermes, so a Molted agent can call GMI inference for open models while Molted keeps the agent running. Use GMI for GPUs and tokens, Molted for the agent that spends them.

For regulated buyers Molted adds on-premise deployment and a Swiss cluster option. The same team operates molted.cloud for 300+ clients; molted.net is the canary surface.

The verdict

GMI Cloud is a strong AI cloud: NVIDIA GPUs from H100 to GB200, serverless inference across 200+ models, and Agentbox to host and distribute agent containers. Molted is the operated runtime for autonomous agents: always-on, 4-tier self-healing, versioned state, 1,500+ integrations, browser automation, per-agent identity and on-premise options. Pick GMI for GPUs and inference; pick Molted to keep agents working, and use both when your agents need GMI's models.

04FAQ

Molted vs GMI Cloud, answered.

01

Is GMI Cloud a competitor to Molted?

Only partly. GMI Cloud is mainly a GPU and inference cloud, with Agentbox as a way to host and distribute agents as containers. Molted is a managed runtime for autonomous agents. They overlap on hosting agents and differ on almost everything else, and they often work together, with GMI supplying inference to a Molted agent.

02

Can GMI Agentbox run long-running agents?

Agentbox bills per second of active runtime and stops an agent's container when nobody is using it. Requests that take minutes must follow an async job pattern because the HTTP gateway closes long connections, per GMI's docs. That suits request-driven agents. Agents that must watch and act continuously fit Molted's always-on runtime better.

03

Can I use GMI models with Molted?

Yes. Molted does not resell model tokens; you bring your own provider. GMI exposes OpenAI-compatible inference across 200+ models and documents how to connect it to OpenClaw and Hermes, so a Molted agent can use it like any other provider.

04

When should I pick GMI Cloud over Molted?

When you need dedicated GPUs, high-throughput inference or a marketplace to distribute an agent product to GMI users. Pick Molted when the job is keeping autonomous agents running for a business or its clients, with recovery, state versioning, integrations and identity handled for you.
